By Young Writers Admin | F&Qs
How much time will it take?
That’s entirely up to you. You can choose to use the resources over a few lessons, as a stand-alone lesson… or if you don’t have time in class but you still want your pupils to enjoy the Young Writers experience, this is the perfect for homework, after school club or can be organised by your librarian.
Is there a cost to enter?
No, it’s absolutely free to use the resources and enter competitions!
What’s more, you’ll get a free copy of the book your pupils’ work is published in so every child will get to see their work in print without any cost.
AND… For every 30 entries you submit you get a free copy of the book your pupils feature in so every participating school receives at least 1 free copy.
Can you send me resources in the post?
Of course, we know budgets can be tight in school so we’ll print and send you as many as you need.
Because of the time and cost of international delivery we don’t send resources overseas. If you’re outside the UK please download resources.
Are there any cross-curricular links?
The possibilities are endless with The Magic Door… your pupils can go anywhere in their imaginations. You can link it to your class topic, current event or a book you’re reading in school. Here are a few ideas of where The Magic Door could take them:
Under the sea On the Titanic On a pirate ship On the moon Anywhere in time |
In a book or fairy tale In space Anywhere in the wold Pudding Lane
|
You’ll find sequencing activities for The Great Fire of London, fairy tales and space in the downloads.
Is this suitable for all abilities?
Yes! At Young Writers we value inclusivity; we try to create resources to help children of all abilities. You can pick and choose the resources that suit your pupils from the downloadabe resources including a story setting word bank, sequencing activities and plenty of examples.
Whatever the child’s ability or confidence level we’d just love for them to get writing. We know seeing themselves published in a book means they’ll have more confidence next time they write!
Can we enter online?
You can enter however is best for you and your pupils. Your pupils can use the planning sheet/entry form and you can post, email or upload them.
Or if you want to combine literacy and ICT your pupils can use the Word Doc entry form or the Online Writing Portal where they can type their work up and you can send them to us at the click of the button!
