Through Their Eyes 2024 |
Poetry Competition
| Ideal for 11-18

Through Their Eyes 2024 Video

Engage your students with poetry writing as they imagine life through someone or something else's eyes...

Engage and inspire your students with poetry as they write from someone else's point of view.

Back by popular demand, Through Their Eyes gives your students the opportunity to step into somebody else's life and write a poem about what they imagine their thoughts, feelings and experiences are. It encourages them to exercise both imagination and empathy and can also spark debate and discussion within your classroom.

It's perfect for cross-curricular links including PSHE as your students can write from the point of view of anyone or anything using any poetic style or techniques. For example:

📖 A book character to show their understanding of the text they're studying
🐈The secret life of a pet
🤴A historical figure
🧦The inner thoughts of an inanimate object
👩‍⚕️Their idol or hero
😔Someone going through hardship e.g. war, bullying, poverty

Free resources are available to download, which are designed to ignite inspiration and help your students plan and write their poems, including examples from past winners and a ready-made lesson plan and PowerPoint to make planning a breeze!

Request as many entry forms, posters and idea postcards as you need and we will post them out to you free of charge, so you can get your whole school involved.

If you haven't tried the Online Writing Portal yet (where your students type their work during a lesson or as homework) check it out today at www.youngwriters.co.uk/teachers

Through Their Eyes is ideal for 11-18 year-olds, but students outside this age range are welcome to enter.

Closing Date: Friday 24th May 2024

We've worked with over 20,000 schools. Here's what some of them have to say...

We loved doing 'This Is Me' so it's great that you offer an opportunity for a younger age group too.
